The nostr relay blaster

A relay blaster takes one event and fans it out to every relay it can reach. blaastr does that as a service: add wss://blaastr.com to your client's relay list and each note you sign is published to 1,155 online relays and your own write relays, without changing how you post.

What is a nostr relay blaster?

On nostr, a note only exists on the relays you send it to. Most clients publish to the five or ten relays in your list, so anyone reading from other relays never sees you. A relay blaster is a write-only relay that accepts your signed event and republishes it to every relay it knows is online.

The idea started with blastr, a Cloudflare worker from the Mutiny team that forwarded events to the top few hundred relays. blaastr is a maintained, hosted relay blaster with a live relay list, per-relay delivery reports and a subscription tied to your pubkey.

How blaastr blasts your events

When an event arrives on wss://blaastr.com:

  • The signature is checked and the author's subscription is looked up. Events from other keys are refused, so nobody can use your subscription.
  • The event is queued and the relay answers OK right away. Your client carries on as normal.
  • In the background it is published to every active relay on the live list, plus the write relays from your NIP-65 relay list.
  • Relays that refuse it, ask for payment or can't be reached are skipped and replaced by standby relays.

Why blast to every relay?

Reach: readers on small, regional or niche relays see your notes without you adding those relays yourself. Resilience: if your usual relays go down or prune old events, copies live on hundreds of others. Discovery: profile updates, follows and long-form posts land wherever people look for them.

Set it up in a minute

Subscribe your npub for 21,000 sats a year (no account, no email), then add wss://blaastr.com as a write relay in Damus, Amethyst, Primal, Nostrudel, Coracle or any other client. Keep your normal relays for reading. Everything you post from then on is blasted.

Questions

Is a relay blaster spam?

blaastr only publishes events signed by a subscribed key, at most once per event id, within a daily limit. Relays that don't want the events reject them and are skipped. It sends your own notes further, it doesn't generate content.

Can I read from blaastr?

No. It's write-only: it stores nothing, and REQ subscriptions are answered with CLOSED. Keep your usual relays for reading.

Which relays does it publish to?

Every relay on the live list that accepts our events, currently 1,155, plus your own write relays. The full list with active, standby and skipped relays is public on the Relays page.

How much does it cost?

21,000 sats per year, paid over lightning. Renewing adds a year to the time you have left.
